Good Luck Italy!!!

I don’t usually post about politics, unless I feel it is necessary to voice my point of view. This is one of those occasions I feel there is a need to share what I feel about the present “Crisi di Governo”, which is ongoing in Italy these days.

As all of you know, Italy was the first Country impacted by the covid pandemic in the western world and obviosuly the government was taken by surprise. During the first lockdown in spring 2020 our health system, which is a public service, had to cope with the lack of ICU beds and several restriction were introduced. I won’t say that the way our Government handled the emergecy was perfect, because it wasn’t, but I do believe it was the best possible way, given the circumstances.

The present government arose from a coalition of different Parties who gathered togeter in autumn 2019 at a time the pandemic was not even in view, and had to cope with this huge global monster which is still affecting all of us, regardless where we live.

Our Christmas time was poisoned by the leader of a very small party, member of such coalition, which gathers approx 2% of the total votes, named Matteo Renzi, former prime minister between 2016 and 2018, whose leadership was, in my opinion, a real disaster. We have to blame this one and only man if tomorrow we won’t have a government and, if another coalition won’t be found, we will have to go to election and based on the current statistics majority will move right. What scares me most is the fact that the leaders of the opposition are seriously Euro Sceptic, despite the fact that our current Prime Minister, Mr. Giuseppe Conte, managed to obtain a substantial share of the overall European Multiannual Financial Framework and the so called EU Recovery Fund worth more than 750 Billion Euro – 209 of which are assigned to Italy.

We don’t wave our national flag frequently, except as during the soccer comptetions at the Fifa World Cup Finals or during the Olympics, but this time I feel the need to share with you the Italian Flag, not because I am proud, but because I am scared that the country will be delivered into the hands of leaders who are fond of the Trump Politics in the US and do not believe that the European Union is a benefit for us all.

Wish good luck to Italy, if you like

  1. Great Matteo! And now that we know that the Conte Government will proceed, even though the majority is weak, let’s hope we will get over this very delicate moment. Maybe also with the help of the results in the US!!

  2. Best of luck to your country! We celebrated and welcomed our new president yesterday. His inauguration was not just very beautiful but so symbolic of the healing, call for unity and fresh start that we badly need n order to heal us from all the trauma that we experienced under Trump for four years. As soon as I read “fond of Trump politics” then these leaders that you are referring to are no good. God bless America and God bless Italy!
