I took another day off and went back to the Lake District of Northern Piedmont. But this time I went to Lake Maggiore. If Lake Orta is the most romantic lake, the word I can use to better describe Lake Maggiore is: beautiful.
If I had to choose which is the lake that in my opinion is the most romantic, I would definitely say Lake Orta. Probably the smallest of the so-called “lake district”, Orta Lake covers an area of 18 Km2 which is quite an extent for a low Alps lake.
My latest bike tour of Turin took me to the edges of the municipality, just before heading to the Hunting Lodge of Stupinigi. In fact if you take a left before entering the long boulevard taking to the facade of Stupinigi, the bike lane takes you to another very beutiful place, often neglected and forgotten, even by the locals, which also is not included into any city tour I am aware of: The Mausoleum of the Beautiful Rose (la bela Rusin).
There are several attractions inside the park of Valentino, in Turin. Take a bike ride in it and the more you pedal the more you see and discover.
Venaria Reale is a mighty Hunting Lodge, built in the 1600s by the former Italian Royal Family, just outside the city of Torino, the capital of the Kingdom. The gardens underwent an incredibly well conceived project to take them back to their original splendour based on the gardening styles used to renovate them through the centuries… with a touch of contemporary art also.
